Men's Health after 50

Super Advanced Prostate Formula

Prostate enlargement, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common prostate problem for men older than 50 years. It is said to affect about 50% of men between the ages of 51 and 60 and as much as 90% of men older than 80 years of age.1 It is characterized by the enlargement of the prostate and its surrounding tissue. As the prostate gland enlarges, it squeezes the urethra, and the bladder wall becomes thicker. As time goes on, the bladder weakens and loses the ability to empty fully. This causes a host of symptoms such as frequent urination, inability to urinate, weak urine flow, and straining.2

An enlarged prostate can be treated using prescription drugs or even removed using surgery. However, as the popular adage goes, ‘prevention is better that cure’. Lifestyle changes such as losing weight and eating a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetable may help in preventing the condition.2 But then, fighting prostate enlargement and preventing its cancer would mean having to take good care of your prostate, and this may involve using supplements that contain natural ingredients proven to improve its wellbeing and protect it from various harmful conditions like cancer and inflammation (prostatitis).

One of such naturally prepared supplement is My Balance “Super Advanced Prostate Formula,” which contains several therapeutic ingredients like vitamin E, vitamin B6, zinc, selenium, copper, Saw palmetto fruit, Pygeum africanum bark powder, plant sterol complex, raspberry juice powder, graviola, green tea, Cat’s claw bark, broccoli, tomato powder, nettle, maitake, reishi and shitake fruits. This is in addition to a proprietary blend that contains quercetin, Juniper, Uva ursi, pumpkin seed, parsley, and numerous other plant materials.

  • Vitamin E

As a great antioxidant, vitamin E may be able to protect against prostate cancer by scavenging free radicals in your body. It can also act as an anti-inflammatory agent to suppress inflammation in the body, which fuels cancerous growths. In fact, there’s research out there that found high vitamin E levels, in the form of alpha-tocopherol, to be associated with a lower incidence of prostate cancer.3

  • Selenium

As an important trace mineral, selenium is involved in many processes in our body. It is a powerful antioxidant that fights oxidative stress and protect cells from damage. Numerous research have shown how selenium may have great potential in preventing prostate cancer.

Particular research published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention reviewed the association of selenium and prostate cancer. After systematically assessing 38 studies that included 36,419 cases and 105,293 controls, the team of researchers were able to conclude that selenium may be able to protect against prostate cancer and its progression into advanced forms. Thus, the research proposed selenium supplementation as a means to prevent prostate cancer.4

  • Copper

Research published in 2014, found copper signaling to play a role in reducing the tumorous growth of prostate cells. The research showed that administration of copper, along with disulfiram, targets and eventually eliminates copper-laden prostate cancer cells, while having no effect on non-cancerous cells.5

  • Saw Palmetto fruit

This plant, native to the southeastern United States, is commonly used in supplements to support prostate health and balance hormone levels. Researched scientific evidence have shown that the extracts from the fruit of this palm may have some therapeutic effects against prostate cancer, chronic prostatitis, and sexual dysfunction.6

  • Pygeum africanum bark powder

There are evidences that Pygeum contains compounds that are able to shrink the size of an enlarged prostate, as in the case with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Therefore, oral intake of Pygeum supplements may be able to relieve some of the symptoms associated with prostate enlargement, such as inability to fully empty the bladder and weak urine flow.7

  • Plant sterol complex

Based on research, plant sterols such as beta-sitosterol, have been shown to significantly improve the symptoms of BPH, especially the urinary flow parameters. Such sterols are said to bind to prostate cells, prevent their inflammation, and assist in cell signaling to produce healthy prostate cells.8

  • Raspberry juice powder

Research published in the Journal of Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition, tested the effects of unripe raspberry juice extract on BPH. However, this research was conducted in laboratory animals, but it came out with positive results. The study concluded that unripe raspberry extract may effectively halt the development of BPH, and may therefore serve as a useful agent in the treatment of BPH.9

  • Graviola

As interesting as it may sound, graviola pulp extract was found by a research to inhibit hypoxia-induced NADPH oxidase activity in prostate cancer cells, and thus, halting the further growth of cancerous cells. Conclusively, the research purported that graviola pulp extract could be useful in the prevention of prostate cancer progression via the mechanism of inhibiting NADPH oxidase activity.10

  • Green tea

The green tea is known for its numerous health benefits, including cholesterol lowering ability and cardiovascular protection. There’s research that showed how green tea consumption was able to reduce some of the symptoms associated with BPH in just 6 weeks, by improving urine flow and reducing inflammation.11

  • Cats claw bark

Derived from a tropical woody vine, cat’s claw is said to possess great immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties. Of course, if the prostate is to remain in a healthy condition, boosting the body’s immune system and fighting inflammatory activities of cells would be key.12

  • Broccoli

For long, numerous studies, although in animals, have suggested cruciferous vegetables like broccoli may help protect against prostate cancer. Broccoli, as with other cruciferous vegetables, is rich in glucoraphanins, chemicals that are converted to isothiocyanates in the body. These compounds have been shown by research to eliminate cancer-causing toxins in the body, halt pathways of cellular inflammation, and protect the body’s cells and DNA from free radical damage.

Interesting research, published as recent as 2019, further highlighted the therapeutic potential of broccoli against prostate cancer. In the study, 49 men divided into groups were given either a standard broccoli soup or an enhanced one with increased concentration of glucoraphanins. After a year of treatment, the research noted that consumption of glucoraphanin-rich broccoli soup affected gene expression in the prostate of men, which meant that there was a significant reduction in the risk for prostate cancer progression.13

  • Tomato powder

At one point in time, you must have heard of the compound, lycopene, in tomatoes, which is a powerful antioxidant that can protect cells from damage. According to a research from World Cancer Research Fund International, men who consumed cooked or canned tomatoes 5-6 times a week, had a 28% decreased risk of prostate cancer when compared to those who do not take this wonderful food.14

  • Nettle

Some have compared this herb to a conventional BPH drug when it comes to slowing the growth of prostate cells. In fact, it’s no coincidence that herbal remedies using this plant have achieved some success in the treatment of BPH. Recent scientific research have also shown that this herb may be able to successfully relieve some of the clinical symptoms of BPH, and should be used more often in treatment of the condition.15

  • Maitake, reishi, and shiitake

There’s research that shows maitake mushrooms may actually have a potential in preventing prostate cancer.16 In animal researches, maitake has also been shown to suppress the growth of cancer cells.17

Also, the triterpenes from Ganoderma lucidum (reishi mushroom) has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in human prostate cancer cells.18

With the ingredients stacked in this wonderful product, I could be writing bulky blogs that might take you all day to read. But hey! Time is precious.

The Super Advanced Prostate Formula should without doubt be one of the best supplements out there when it comes to containing the most potent ingredients that are scientifically proven to help improve the health of your prostate, relieve the symptoms of BPH, and protect it from cancer.
